Kelsey grew up in Rhode Island but has bounced around a lot since then. She went to Smith College for a BA in geology and minor in philosophy, then to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a MSc in geology and a PhD in geoscience, with a minor in chemistry. Her doctoral research was based in Greenland, and examined the effect that ocean warming after the last ice age had on melting the edges of the Greenland Ice Sheet. After this, she did a postdoc at UMass Lowell, studying rock glaciers in Antarctica. She has taught geology at Colgate University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Northern Arizona University, which she found really rewarding.
She entered the world of creative writing after coming down with Long Covid and ME/CFS. At first, writing was something she could do from her bed and for a few minutes at a time. As her health has slowly improved, she has become dedicated to writing fiction. Copy editing fiction, which she is learning on the side, takes a lot out of her, so she can only do it occasionally. She is very grateful that her spouse, Scott, is able to work for the both of them.
Outside of writing, Kelsey loves learning languages. She especially loves the early stages of learning, but is trying to focus in on Spanish (conversational) and Finnish (what even is a word). She enjoys crocheting, sitting outside with her cat (in a carrier) when the weather is nice, going for rolls on her scooter, and watching ice hockey. Yay Blackhawks! In the past, she loved gardening, traveling for work, and practicing muay thai.
